Road race tires are designed to go fast. In the past, racers traditionally used glue on tubular tires. In recent years, clincher tires have become much more common on the bikes of racers at all levels. Clincher race tires tend to be manufacturers' flagship tires, they receive the most space on showroom floors and in glossy magazine ads.

Race tire quality used to be measured in tpi (threads per inch), a measurement of the quality of the casing. Modern race tires focus more on the rubber compound used. Many of today's fastest clincher tires have very low tpi counts and feature space age rubber compounds.

Most race tires are for 700c(ISO 622) wheels and are 20-25mm wide. 650c (ISO 571) wheels are sometimes found on triathlon and smaller road bikes, race tires for these bikes are available. Race tires are typically used with presta valve tubes.

With speed, light weight and grip as primary considerations, puncture protection and durability decrease. Race tires generally weigh about 200g and will last 1,000-1,500 miles depending on the rider and terrain. For those looking to maximize performance in races or fast group rides, race tires are the answer.

Sweet tire! - Rolls nice and durabe too
By Anonymous

I like a fast tire and this one is fast. Tried many others but this one is more durable and resists cuts very well. The casing is extremely strong and can be pumped up like rock hard.
