Bicycle Tools
Even if you don't do your own bicycle maintenance, there are some tools you shouldn't be without. At BicycleTires, we carry an assortment of tools for home maintenance and for emergency repairs on the road or trail. If you're not already on our Tools Page, you can get there by clicking on Tools above.
While certified mechanics are the best qualified people to do major installations and overhauls, even occasional riders will need to perform general maintenance on their bike at one time or another.
Here is a list of the most common bike maintenance chores, and the tools necessary:
- Tire Repair - Always have a patch kit to repair punctured tubes. Tire levers will help remove and install tires. A good floor pump is a necessity for cyclists of any level.
- Chain Maintenance - A clean chain makes riding more efficient and enjoyable. PMS Products T9 Bicycle Lubricant is our favorite chain lube. Park Tool CM-5 Chain Cleaner will help keep your chain clean. A chain tool is necessary for chain replacement.
- Component Adjustment - Most bike adjustment can be done with a standard screwdriver and an hex set.
- Multi-tool - A light-weight, low cost multi-tool carried in your bicycle bag can save a ride that might otherwise require a walk home. They typically include a screwdriver, several sizes of allen and spoke wrenches. Some, like the Park Tool MTB-3 Rescue Tool Kit or Park Tool IB-3 I-Beam Mini Fold Up With Chain Tool have chain tools.
