26 inch tires

26 inch tires are the standard size for most mountain bikes made today. While "29er" MTBs are becoming more popular, they remain a very specialized niche. Standard 26" wheels adorn the range of MTBs from the $200 department store model to your $5,000 racing rig. As these MTBs are used for a variety of purposes, there are tires for all MTB needs. BicycleTires provides a large selection tires for all your MTB needs: 26" Touring, Slick/Semi-slick, 26" Cross Country are just some categories of MTB tires we offer.

Many of the older family, city or beach cruisers also run on 26" tires. Unlike more modern 700c tires which are all the same rim size (ISO622) older 26" tires actually come in at least 6 different rim sizes. The key to figuring out which size you need is to look at an existing tire on your bike for the ISO number. The ISO number will look like ISOxxx where "xxx" is the rim diameter in millimeters, or yy-xxx where yy is the tire width and xxx is the rim diameter.

Some road bikes are also equipped with wheels approximately 26" in diameter. For road bikes, this size is most referred to as 650c. This size is most commonly found on bikes using triathlon tires, recumbent tires and road bikes sized for women and children. While 650c is a fairly universal size for these tires, Continental comes to mind as one tire maker that still prints 26 on some of its 650c size tires.

Here is a list of the ISO numbers for the various 26" tire sizes we carry.

  • ISO559 - Standard mountain bikes
  • ISO571 - Schwinn cruisers
  • ISO590 - department store 3-speeds
  • ISO597 - Schwinn lightweights

When you are ready to order your next 26 inch tires just take a look at the ISO number on your existing tire then go to our Tire Finder page, click on the pull down list arrow for "Select Rim Size" and select the ISO size that matches. You will then see all the tires we have in stock in your size.
